How to measure your ring size

Why should you get your finger measured in-store?
Like many things in life, it’s best to leave some stuff to the experts. There are many factors to consider when measuring for a ring, such as the width of the band. It’s especially important to get your finger and ring accurately sized if you’re purchasing a wedding band, engagement ring, or any special ring. Tips for measuring ring size at home
If you can’t make it in-store, here are some tips to make sure you get a more accurate measurement at home:
- As your dominant hand is usually slightly larger, make sure you measure the actual finger.
- Make sure you measure across your knuckle to ensure the ring can easily slide over it.
- Fingers change size throughout the day, so it’s good to measure at different times.
- Wider bands will have a tighter fit than thinner bands, so you may need to size up.
- If you’re still not sure of the exact size, it’s best to choose larger than smaller.
How to measure your finger using the Hoskings Jewellers multisizer

Ring Size FAQs
A ring should fit your finger comfortably. Not so tight that it feels constricted and not so loose that it can easily fall off. It needs to be able to slide over your knuckle without too much difficulty and allow some space for changes in finger size which naturally happen during the day. Our fingers will usually get more swollen in the evening and in warm weather.
Many countries use different ring measurements. In the US, Canada and much of Asia, numerical sizes are more commonly used. In Australia we use the alphabet for our ring size guide, with the smallest being ‘A’ to the largest being ‘Z’. Hoskings international ring size chart helps make international ring size conversion easy.
The ring size chart measures men’s, women’s and children’s ring sizes in the same chart. There is no separate men’s ring size chart. The most common size that women wear are N, O, P and Q. Men usually wear ring sizes T, U and V. And most children’s rings are in sizes: F, G, H and I.
Hoskings stunning rings are available in most standard sizes. If you feel like you’re in-between ring sizes, there are so many factors to take into consideration. Rings with shoulder stones then we recommend that you choose a size down. If it is a plain band or a wider band then we recommend that you choose a size up.
Some rings made with platinum, titanium and zircon metals cannot be easily resized. Likewise, some styles of engagement rings and wedding bands are also hard to resize, so it’s best to order them in the correct size. However, many of Hoskings rings can be re-sized by one-or-two sizes, depending on the style. It is important to choose a ring size that is as close as possible as we only recommend resizing one size down and two sizes up. If we can’t resize it, in many cases we can order the ring for you in the correct size. It takes longer but it will be worth the wait.
At Hoskings, when you find your perfect engagement ring, we’ll usually be able to order the ring in your correct size. All our stunning engagement rings come in a wide range of sizes. Some sterling silver and standard 9ct gold rings can be re-sized to fit if necessary.
The cost to resize a ring varies depending on the metal:
- The starting price to resize a sterling silver ring is $35.
- Resizing a yellow gold ring starts from $50.
- Resizing a white gold rings starts from $80 and includes rhodium plating.
White gold has a natural yellow tinge. Rhodium is a beautifully reflective, bright white metal that is used to enhance white gold. Rhodium adds hardness and is more scratch resistant. While durable it will eventually wear down so we recommend having your white gold plated every 1 to 2 years.
Yes, a wider band (over 7mm) will usually feel tighter on your finger, so we recommend ordering one size or two up.
